GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN: LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY’S UNDERGROUND BIKE PARK

The underground mountain bike park in Louisville, Kentucky, shut down a few years ago, but it was a memorable place to ride when it was still operational.

The Louisville Mega Cavern is an underground tourist attraction that was built in a former limestone mine located about 100 feet below the city of Louisville, Kentucky. The mountain bike park that was housed in the cavernous interior is permanently closed now, but it was a fun place to visit while it lasted. MBA’s John Ker checked out the park when it was fully operational around six years ago, and he shot this “Photo of the Day” in the subterranean park during his visit. While the Mega Cavern is still in business, with zip lines and other activities, the park has no plans to open up the underground bike park again. John called the park and spoke to them recently, and a spokesperson for the park told us that the facility may bring back bike tours inside the enormous old mine at some point in the future, but the business owners have no plans to reopen the underground mountain bike park.
