Crankbrothers has offered tire levers before but its new Slider Tire Lever Kit is one of the best we have ever used. It includes a pair of Delrin levers with nicely shaped tips that are thin enough to get under the bead but thick enough to withstand the prying forces of stubborn tires without bending. At the ends hooked notches designed to engage with a spoke freeing both hands to manipulate the other lever or tire.

The levers are great, but that’s not what makes this kit special – the included Tire Sliders set it apart. These small clip-like devices have an outer nub for your fingers to grab and they go over the rim’s outer wall at the start of bead installation to hold it down making it a singe lever affair. They take a page of the motorcycle tire-changing playbook with its ‘bead buddy’ that does the same thing. Tire Sliders can also be used to help keep the bead down into the rim’s drop channel at the opposite side of the tire from where you’re working .
