South Africa’s Greg Minnaar is a three-time UCI Downhill World champion and three-time World Cup Series champion. Minnaar has currently won more World Cup downhill races—21—than any other rider in history.

1. Look ahead. Looking ahead lets you act on what’s coming up rather than react—essentially calming down your ride.

2. Braking before the corner. An easy mistake is braking late. You want to try to scrub off unnecessary speed while approaching the corner and completely get off your brakes around the corner.

3. Getting mobile before you ride. A couple of mobility exercises won’t hurt. Get your body firing the way it should before hitting the trails.

THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO GET MOUNTAIN BIKE ACTION

Mountain Bike Action is a monthly magazine devoted to all things mountain biking (yes, that’s 12 times a year because we never take a month off of mountain biking). It has been around since 1986 and we’re still having fun.
