How to Ride Like a Pro: Keegan Swenson

Keegan Swenson

Keegan is America’s 2019 XCO National champion, a two-time Whiskey Off-Road winner and the winner of the 2019 Carson City Off-Road. He also took third in the Swiss Epic Stage Race and placed in the top 20 in the Andorra World Cup.

Tip 1: To help stay on top of your nutrition during rides and races, set a timer for 20–25 minutes on your ride computer or watch so you don’t forget to eat/drink! It helps a bunch to be reminded, then it just becomes habit.

Tip 2: Keep quick links for your chain and tire plugs taped to your handlebars or stem on all your bikes so you can easily get to them when the time comes!

The hardtail: Like many cross-country pros, Keegan races a hardtail if the course is fairly smooth. Keegan estimates that this bike, his Pivot LES Carbon, tops the scales at around 21.5 pounds with the dropper post.

Mountain Bike Action is a monthly magazine devoted to all things mountain biking (yes, that’s 12 times a year because we never take a month off of mountain biking). It has been around since 1986 and we’re still having fun.
